ALGO 2018: Social program
Tuesday at 5pm: Excursion, from Market Square
On Tuesday we will have a boat trip that departs from the Market Square at 5pm. The cruise company is JT-Line, and their boats “M/s Amiraali”, “M/s Viapori”, and “Pw/s Vispilä” will be waiting for us at there. You will need to show your conference badge when you board the boats; you will also receive a complimentary drink coupon at the pier.
You can come to the Market Square on your own (see the maps below for the exact location of the departure), or you can join us when we walk together from the conference site to the Market Square; it is a half-an-hour walk. You can also take tram 2; there are stops right next to the conference venue and at the Market Square — see the maps for the route and local information for help with tickets. It may be a good idea to bring a jacket with you.
After a tour in the beautiful Helsinki archipelago, the boats will take us to Klippan island, where we will have our conference banquet.
Walk to the Market Square: You will find local organizers (wearing yellow T-shirts) in front of the conference venue at 4pm. They will form groups of participants and lead them to the Market Square. The last groups will leave around 4.15pm.
Tuesday at 7pm: Banquet, Restaurant Saaristo
The banquet takes place in Restaurant Saaristo, which is located on a small island called “Klippan” or “Luoto” right in front of Helsinki city center.
If you take part in the excursion, the boats will take you directly to Klippan island around 7pm. If you are coming on your own, you can use a boat that connects the island to the mainland; see the maps below to see where the boat leaves. The boat runs every 20 minutes, the trip takes only a couple of minutes, and the boat fee is included in ALGO registration.
After the dinner, you can use the same boat to get back. There is a stop of tram 2 nearby (see the maps), or you can simply follow the seafront and walk back to city center and your hotel. If you need to buy a tram ticket, there is one ticket vending machine along the way from the boat to the nearest tram stop; we have indicated the location in the map. Wednesday at 7pm: Reception, City Hall
The City of Helsinki has kindly invited all ALGO participants to a reception in Helsinki City Hall on Wednesday from 7.00pm to 8.30pm.
The City Hall is located next to the Market Square; the street address is Pohjoisesplanadi 11–13, Helsinki (see also the map below). There is a stop of tram 2 right next to the City Hall. You can also join us when we walk together from the conference site to the City Hall; it is a half-an-hour walk.
You will need to present your conference badge at the entrance. Deputy Mayor Pia Pakarinen will open the event at 7.00pm sharp; please be at the City Hall before that (the doors will be closed after 7pm).
